Abstract

Author presents the context for the launching a new Canon Law journal in the Institute of Oriental Canon Law at DVK and the motivating factor for baptizing it IUSTITIA Dharmaram Journal of Canon Law. He explains how important and relevant laws and regulations are for the harmonious coexistence and orderly functioning of the members and for the common good of any society or community. Explaining the purpose and functions of law he illustrates how it ensures aministration of justice, facilitates harmonious living and protects personal rights of all members. The meaning of the terms lex and ius and their affinity or subtle differences are highlighted with a view demonstrate the link between law and justice. 

Author Biography

Cherian Thunduparambil, Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram

Cherian Thunduparampil, born in 1964 at Pachai (Kerala, India), was ordained priest in 1994 in the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate Congregation, India. He took licentiate (1997) and Doctorate (2001) in Oriental Canon Law from the PIO, Rome, with specialization on the “Role of Miracle in the Process of Canonization.” He also holds a diploma in the “Process of Canonization” (Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Rome 1998). Since 2001 he is a full time lecturer/associate professor of Oriental Canon Law at DVK and has served as the Controller of Examinations (DVK); Director, Institute of Oriental Canon Law (DVK); Master of theology Students (2003-2006 and 2010--); pastor (2004-2009) of a parish and defender of the bond at the archdiocesan marriage tribunal, Bangalore. The founder Editor-in-chief of IUSTITIA, Dharmaram Journal of Canon Law, is also serving as the Managing Editor of the Dharmaram Journals: Journal of Dharma, Asian Horizons, Vinaya Sadhana and Iustitia.
