Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

  1. Recommended number of words (including the footnotes): 7500.
  2. Along with the article, please send also i) an abstract of the same in about 70/80 words and ii) a brief CV of yours in 70 words.
  3. Kindly use 1½ space and use Book Antiqua 11 point type (if possible) throughout the manuscript.
  4. Use italics for titles of books and journals or, occasionally, for emphasis / foreign-language words in the text. Avoid special fonts, including all UPPER-CASE, boldface, or larger fonts for titles / headings. Do not underline Internet addresses, give access date.
  5. Avoid inserting any formatting in the body of your text, including margin changes or font changes.
  6. Use quotation marks for all the quotations, including the long ones, without using indents. While formatting the text for the journal, we shall make use of indents wherever necessary.
  7. As far as possible, non-sexist language is preferred.
  8. Please use numbers (Arabic) for headings and subheadings.
  9. Use footnotes: References should appear in footnotes, not in the body of the text. (Exceptions: biblical texts, official Church documents (eg., Vatican II); and canons from the Codes of Canon Law).
  10. The first reference to a source must include the author’s full name, complete title and subtitle, the city of publication, the publisher, the year, and the page number or sequence of pages. Subsequent references may use a shortened form (the author’s surname, the title, and the page number.)
  11. For references to books, give full author’s name, title and subtitle (if any) separated by a colon; city and name of publisher, year of publication, and page number/s. [Eg.,: George Nedungatt, Laity and Church Temporalities: Appraisal of a Tradition (Bangalore: Dharmaram Publications, 2000) 242.]
  12. For references to books other than in English [Eg., Italian], only the first letter of the title’s first word need be in capital letter, all others, unless proper nouns or so, begin with small letter. [Eg., D. Salachas, Teologia e disciplina dei sacramenti nei codici latino e orientale: studio teologico-giuridico comparative (Bologna: Edizioni Dehoniane, 1999) 311.
  13. For references to periodicals, give full author’s name, title [in inverted comas], journal name [in italics], volume, issue, year of publication, and page number/s. [For example: Benny Tharakunnel, “Patriarchs/Majorarchi-episcopal Ordinary Tribunals Tribunal of Third and Further Instances,” Iustitia 6, 1 (2015) 93.]
  14. For references to edited works: [Eg., George Nedungatt and Michael Featherstone, eds., The Council in Trullo Revisited, Kanonika 6 (Rome: Pontificio Istituto Orientale, 1995) 166-168.
  15. As far as possible avoid Ibid.; op.cit.; loc.cit. etc. Instead, repeat the same in a shortened form (name of the author and the book/article cited and page number).
  16. Author’s name NOT full in capital: not all the letters in the name or surname be capital, only the initial letter.
  17. For paragraph no hanging space is required (no left tab spacing needed.)A
