Some of the rich concepts of Indian Philosophical traditions are seldom translated very satisfactorily into western languages without sacrificing their profound and precise meanings. "Consciousness" isthe translation for the Advaitic term Cit, which means more than simple "awareness" or "awakening", concepts which are usually sub- stituted for "consciousness".
