Abstract

In Laudato Sí Francis insists our Christian faith is ‘heart’ knowledge more than ‘head’ knowledge. This article contains a summary of Francis’s 2015 Encyclical, ‘Laudato Sí based on the reported comments of various writers and concluding with a summary of the Declaration of Islamic leaders on Climate Change and Ecology (Istanbul, 18/8/15) as reported in the National Catholic Reporter, 19/8/15

Kevin Kelly, DVK

Kevin Kelly is a retired Liverpool parish priest and moral theologian. In 1980 he
was Visiting Fellow at St Edmund’s College, Cambridge, during which time he did a
2-month tour of 3rd World countries to experience liberation theology at grass-roots
level. 1986-95 combined parish work in inner-city Liverpool with lecturing in moral
theology at Heythrop College. For nearly 20 years he has served on CAFOD advisory
bodies related to HIV/AIDS and has visited AIDS projects in Uganda, Zimbabwe,
Zambia, Thailand and the Philippines. Co-founder in 1975 of the Association of
Teachers of Moral Theology (ATMT). His published works include Life and Love:
Towards a Christian Dialogue on Bioethical Questions (1987); New Directions in Moral
Theology: The Challenge of Being Human (1992); Divorce and Second Marriage: Facing the
Challenge (1997); New Directions in Sexual Ethics: Moral Theology and the Challenge of
AIDS (1998); and From a Parish Base: Essays in Moral and Pastoral Theology (1999); 50
Years Receiving Vatican II: A Personal Odyssey (2102). He has written on issues of moral
and pastoral theology in various periodicals. Liverpool Hope University has
