LITURGICAL LEGACY OF POPE JOHN PAUL II TO THE EASTERN CHURCHES
Keywords:
LITURGICAL LEGACY, POPE JOHN PAUL II, EASTERN CHURCHESAbstract
The imminent canonization of John Paul II, as well as his continued popularity among the faithful, suggests that a consideration of his appropriation of the letter and spirit of Orientalium Ecclesiarum is most timely. This paper, therefore, examines the liturgical legacy of Pope John Paul II to the Eastern Churches, through a cross-section of pertinent texts, events and initiatives. These are treated in terms of their theological principles, pastoral contexts and ecclesial/ecumenical implications. The significance of Orientalium Ecclesiarum is thus charted in terms of its influence on the Pope and his historic ministry.
