Abstract

The Christian understanding of the dignity of women is based on the biblical presentation of women and their rightful place in society as human persons. Not even a quick reading of the Bible can miss the powerful
presence of biblical women who played significant leadership roles in Salvation History.

Author Biography

Rekha M. Chennattu, Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune

Dr. Rekha M. Chennattu is Professor of New Testament at Jnana-Deepa
Vidyapeeth, Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Religion, Pune, India. She is also the
Provincial of the Religious of the Assumption in India. She has a Licentiate in
Scripture from Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome, and holds a Ph.D. in Biblical
Studies from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. Her publications
include the book, Johannine Discipleship as a Covenant Relationship, Peabody:
Hendrickson Publishers, 2006, an edited book, Transcending Boundaries:
Contemporary Readings of the New Testament – Essays in Honor of Francis J.
Moloney, Rome: LAS, 2005, and more than 50 scholarly articles in journals. Some of
her articles are translated from English into French, German, Italian, Hungarian,
Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Thai, Korean and Indian languages.
