Abstract

Attachment (pravrtti) and detachment (nivrtti) are two different aspects of Hindujsm. l Among them, attachment leads to social prosperity (abhyudaya) and detachment to liberation (nitšreyasa). Liberation is out of context of the Hindu social phenomenon. In this paper an attempt has been made to define the concept of smãrta-varñšrama and its implication to the present society.
